Global Youth Scientists Gather in Wenzhou, Zhejiang to Discuss Global Issues

On November 29, the "World Youth Academy Asia Forum 2024 Global Young Academy Asian Event - Global π Roundtable" officially opened in the Lucheng District of Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. The event aims to leverage the wisdom and solutions of young people to promote global sustainable development.

The forum brought together renowned academicians, Nobel laureates, global young scientists and entrepreneurs, as well as representatives from various research institutions and international organizations to discuss pressing global topics, including "Biodiversity," "Resilient Cities," "Sustainable Development Resources," and "Fundamental Science and Public Communication."

 

During the event, video opening remarks were given by United Nations Resident Coordinator in China, H.E. Mr. Siddharth Chatterjee, and former UN Deputy Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), H.E. Mr. Erik Solheim, focused on the contributions of initiatives such as China's Global Development Initiative and the "Digital Silk Road" in promoting sustainable development and narrowing the development gap.

 

At the venue, prominent scientists such as Prof. Peter Sachsenmeier, an academician of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering and a professor at Oxford University, and Prof. Ada E. Yonath, the 2009 Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry, delivered keynote speeches that received enthusiastic applause from the audience.

 

In the roundtable discussion, scholars and experts engaged in intense dialogue on two main topics: first, how to advance technological innovation and foster international collaboration in the context of globalization and digitalization, particularly in areas such as climate change, digital technologies, and global governance; and second, how digital technology and artificial intelligence can drive transformation and innovation in scientific research, especially in the application of sustainable development.

 

The event also focused on building platforms for global connection and innovation. A signing ceremony for the "Global π Hub Network" was held on-site, with participating centers from the United States, the UAE, Germany, Malaysia, Pakistan, and other countries. Additionally, the Young Scientists Innovation Alliance was officially established, aiming to provide more collaborative platforms for young scientists worldwide and facilitate the transformation of scientific achievements into industrial applications.

The alliance's members include institutions and companies such as the Bioinformatics Society of Zhejiang Province, the School of Computer and Artificial Intelligence at Wenzhou University, College of Science and Technology at the Wenzhou Kean University, iFlytek (Wenzhou), the Embodied AI at Shenzhen Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Society (AIRS), Global Economic and Innovation Platform and Talent Beyond Borders, CCF Wenzhou Center, Qingyuan Innovation Science and Technology Research Institute, Zhongke Advanced Technology Wenzhou Research Institute, Zhongjin Advanced Technology Wenzhou Research Institute and others.

 

Furthermore, the event launched the "Young Science and Technology Ambassador Action" initiative to inspire young peoples interest in scientific innovation and to promote the development of youth science education and innovation capabilities.

 

The event was jointly organized by the Global Young Academy, the China Association for International Science and Technology Cooperation, and the IInternational Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS), with the WYSS Global π Community and the Qingke Museum of Natural History as the hosts.
